500+ Druid Names: Male, Female, Celtic & Fantasy Name Ideas
Druid names can feel ancient, wild, peaceful, mysterious, or deeply connected to the natural world. A forest healer may need a gentle botanical name, while a shapeshifting guardian or dark druid might suit something much stronger.
This collection includes 500+ druid names for fantasy characters, stories, games, RPG campaigns, and original characters. You’ll find male and female names, real Celtic and Irish choices, nature-inspired ideas, forest names, dark druid names, animal-inspired names, and original fantasy creations.
Real names are identified separately from invented fantasy names so that fictional creations aren’t presented as authentic Celtic history.

Celtic, Irish & Historical Druid Naming
Druids belonged to the religious and learned traditions of ancient Celtic societies, but surviving evidence does not provide us with a giant historical dictionary of personal “druid names.”
Much of what modern readers associate with druids also comes from medieval Irish and Welsh literature, later folklore, modern Druid traditions, and fantasy.
For that reason, an established Irish or Welsh name should not automatically be described as the name of an ancient druid.
The real names below are useful because of their language, history, meanings, or cultural associations. The fantasy sections later in the article are intentionally invented.

Druid Names for Original Characters
If you’re creating an original character, combining a first name, nature surname, and optional title often gives better results than choosing an extremely elaborate single word.
For example:
Elarwyn Mossvale — Forest healer
Thalorin Oakward — Ancient grove guardian
Vaelora Moonfern — Moon druid
Raelorn Bearroot — Bear shapeshifter
Naelith Starfern — Celestial druid
Iveran Stormleaf — Storm caller
Maerwyn Greenbark — Elder druid
Belara Foxglade — Woodland shapeshifter
Ceryn Moonbriar — Lunar guardian
Daelwyn Riverthorn — Water druid
Adding a title can make an important NPC feel more established:
Maerwyn Greenbark, Keeper of the Grove
or:
Thalorin Oakward, Voice of the Oaks
How to Choose a Good Druid Name
A good druid name should reflect the character’s world and personality rather than simply containing the word “nature.”
Start With the Druid’s Environment
Think about where the character gets their power.
A forest druid might suit:
Elarwyn Mossvale
A mountain druid could be:
Cragwyn Stonebark
A coastal druid might use:
Rivara Mistgrove
A desert or fire-focused druid could become:
Cindara Ashwood
This immediately makes the name feel connected to the character.
Match the Name to the Character’s Role
A healer needs a different atmosphere from a corrupted wilderness guardian.
For a healer:
Saelora Willowmoss
For a shapeshifter:
Raelorn Bearroot
For a dark druid:
Morvane Gloamroot
For an elder:
Maerwyn Greenbark
For a storm druid:
Iveran Stormleaf
Don’t Give Invented Names Fake Celtic Meanings
Fantasy names such as Elarwyn, Vaelora, and Thalorin can sound excellent without pretending they are authentic ancient Celtic words.
If a name was invented for a fantasy setting, describe it as an original fantasy name.
This keeps fictional worldbuilding separate from real languages and cultures.
Consider How the Name Sounds Aloud
This matters especially in tabletop games.
A name such as:
Sylvaren
is unusual but relatively easy to say.
An extremely complicated spelling can become frustrating when players need to repeat the name throughout a campaign.
Use Nature Without Becoming Predictable
Not every druid needs to be called Oakleaf.
Try mixing different natural concepts:
Moon + fern = Moonfern
Storm + leaf = Stormleaf
Raven + branch = Ravenbranch
River + thorn = Riverthorn
Clover + mist = Clovermist
The result still feels connected to nature without using exactly the same woodland words every time.
Real Celtic Names vs. Fantasy Druid Names
There is an important distinction.
Aisling, Niamh, Ciarán, Ronan, Oisín, Rhiannon, and Seren come from real naming traditions.
Names such as:
Elarwyn
Thalorin
Vaelora
Sylvaren
Naelith
are fantasy creations.
A fantasy author can use both approaches, but readers shouldn’t be told an invented word has a historical Celtic meaning when it doesn’t.
Druid Names for Games & RPGs
For an RPG character, start with class identity.
A shapeshifter might suit:
Wildren Bearroot
A healer:
Saelora Willowmoss
A moon-focused character:
Naelith Starfern
A darker character:
Morvane Duskthorn
A guardian:
Thalorin Oakward
You can then add an animal form or specialty:
Thalorin Oakward
Forest Guardian • Bear Form
Naelith Starfern
Moon Druid • Owl Form
Vaelora Rainleaf
Healer • Stag Form
Wildren Bearroot
Wild Druid • Wolf Form
This is also why a druid name generator works better when it asks about character type instead of producing completely random fantasy syllables.

Can a druid have an ordinary name?
Yes. A druid’s role doesn’t require a special naming system. In fantasy, an ordinary personal name can work perfectly well, particularly if the character comes from an otherwise ordinary community.
Are druid names always Celtic?
No. Historical druids are associated with ancient Celtic societies, but the modern fantasy druid archetype appears in many fictional settings. A fantasy character therefore doesn’t necessarily need an Irish, Welsh, or other Celtic-language name.
Are fantasy druid names real Celtic names?
Usually not. Names such as Elarwyn, Sylvaren, Vaelora, and Thalorin in this list are explicitly original fantasy creations. They should not be presented as ancient Celtic names or given invented Gaelic meanings.
How do I create my own druid name?
Start with the character’s strongest natural association—forest, moon, animal, water, storm, flower, earth, or fire. Then combine it with another readable natural element or use it to guide the sound of an original fantasy name.
For example:
Moon + Fern → Moonfern
Storm + Leaf → Stormleaf
Raven + Branch → Ravenbranch
Oak + Warden → Oakwarden
What should I name a forest druid?
Names such as Elarwyn Mossvale, Sylvaren Thornwood, Maerwyn Greenbark, Fernwyn, Oakren, and Groven work well for woodland characters.
What should I name a powerful druid?
Consider Thornward, Stormoak, Ironroot, Wildwarden, Oakshield, Stagheart, or Thalorin Oakward.
Can I use these druid names for D&D and other RPG characters?
The original fantasy names can serve as inspiration for tabletop characters, NPCs, stories, and other fictional projects. They aren’t intended to represent official names from any particular game franchise.
Conclusion
A druid name can be as simple as Rowan or as fantastical as Elarwyn Mossvale, Keeper of the Grove.
Real Celtic names such as Aisling, Niamh, Ciarán, Ronan, Oisín, and Rhiannon offer one direction. Nature names such as Hazel, Fern, River, Sage, Aspen, and Juniper offer another.
For a completely fictional world, original names such as Sylvaren, Thalorin, Vaelora, Maerwyn, and Naelith give you more freedom without requiring fabricated historical meanings.
Choose a name that reflects where your druid lives, what kind of magic they practice, and how they interact with the natural world.
And when you want more combinations, use the Druid Name Generator to choose a gender, druid type, style, nature theme, format, and even an animal form to create a character that feels connected from name to story.
